Resettling/Welcoming Families Arriving Update 4.0
Here are important updates.
You are more essential than ever!
1- Late Saturday morning I exchanged calls with Red Cross logistics staff
assisting Afghan arrivals at Dulles Marriott/Expo Center. The following items
were collected from the Center by the Red Cross at 4 this afternoon. -2750
Diapers in various sizes-All the baby wipes we had at the Center (not very
many)-1 box of children’s sized face masks-1152 Granola/Breakfast bars-600
feminine hygiene pads.
Most of these items were from your generous support.
In addition, every-day items you donated are being taken to complete apartment
set ups.
2-With serious amounts of rain forecast for mid-week - ACS urgently needs
volunteers to help sort and organize the donations that have been given. Due
to space limitation and COVID, sorting and organizing is taking place outdoors.
I hope to make a huge push-Sunday 10-2pm & Monday 8:30-2pm @ the Center 501
Sligo Ave. SS, MD 20910. Phone 301 585 6556. Park on the side street. A
HUGE, Thanks You to those who have come the past days.
3-It is recommended (if possible) to wind down in kind. Please HALT purchases
for delivery or drop offs until after Labor Day (September 7) to give time to
process what has been donated and move as much to arriving families as
possible. Space is a serious limiting factor.
4-Arriving with a visa (as opposed to “refugee” status) there is very little to
no Federal Government assistance to resettle. Families will appreciate help
with rent and misc. costs (A loaded card to a family to get a phone, buy
favorite spices, etc.). Monetary donations can be made at www.acsgw.org.
After entering the donation amount you can choose to specify the donation for
Resettlement. For updates on this project visit

4-Area Agencies leading in outfitting apartments are also being stretched to
their limits. Volunteers are needed. Here are 3 links to offer your time:

Thanks for warmly welcoming/helping our newest neighbors.
