Dear Neighbors:
I thought residents would like to know about an important fundraiser taking
place on October 2 from 4:00 - 6:-00 PM for Tommy’s Pantry, the local
non-profit which does so much to help address food insecurity in our
community. I’m passing along the information about the event below. I’d add
that I’ve volunteered at the Pantry’s food distributions, and I think they
do a great job. I’m looking forward to being at the event on October 2, and
I hope to see you there.

Tommy’s Pantry has grown from a small pantry at Takoma Park Middle School,
where it supplied food for 35 student families in need, to a major food &
health/wellness box distribution site at the Church of the Ascension in
Silver Spring, serving over 1,000 families each month. The Pantry is 100%
volunteer-run and pays nothing for overhead and workspace, so all of the
budget and donations go directly to feeding and providing health/wellness
items to our neighbors.
In 2021, Sarah and Jamie Raskin were kind enough to support the
rededication and renaming of the organization in honor of their late son,
Tommy. He was an extraordinary example of kindness, grace, generosity, and
humility, and grew into the incredible human he was right here in Takoma
Park. Tommy's spirit will carry on in many ways, including in the work of
the Pantry, where human dignity is a guiding principle and neighbors look
out for one another.

and volunteers at the October 2 event, which is the Pantry’s first annual
fundraiser*.* As Tommy’s Pantry has grown, so too has the need for
increased funding to continue supporting the ever-growing number of
