Help Resettle a Family Seeking Refuge Update 3.0
Here is an important update. 4 Areas to engage.
The flow of compassion has moved from been close to overwhelming to being
overwhelming! The reports in the Media make it clear that all will arrive with
little more than the clothing on their backs and with very traumatic
experiences.
You are more essential than ever, but the needs have shifted!
1-ACS urgently needs volunteers to help sort and organize the donations that
have been given. About 4 medium size U Haul truck loads need processing, with
more arriving hourly!
Due to space limitation and COVID this is taking place outdoors. To try to
minimize the impact of mid-day heat, I will try to help volunteers get an
earlier start, around 8:30. This will now be M-Th 8:30-2ish @ the Center 501
Sligo Ave. SS, MD 20910. A HUGE, Thanks You to those who have come the past 2
days.
2-It is recommended (if possible) to HALT purchases for delivery or drop offs
until after Labor Day (September 7) to give time to process what has been
donated and move as much to arriving families as possible. Space is a serious
limiting factor.
The attached list or recommended items will remain unchanged. Sorry, Due to
space challenges/volunteers-furniture cannot be accepted.
3-Arriving with a visa (as opposed to “refugee” status) there is very little to
no Federal Government assistance to resettle. Families will appreciate help
with rent and misc. costs (A loaded card to a family to get a phone, buy
favorite spices, etc.).
Monetary donations can be made at www.acsgw.org. After entering the donation
amount you can choose to specify the donation for Resettlement. For updates on
this project visit https://www.facebook.com/ACSGWSLIGO.
4-Area Agencies leading in outfitting apartments are also being stretched to
their limits. Volunteers are needed. Here are 3 links to offer your time/back
muscles:

Thanks for warmly welcoming/helping our newest neighbors. I am always inspired
to see Americans caring so deeply about those facing a crisis.Ken Flemmer,
