Alternative!
It’s time to act again . Residents have sent more than 800 letters to every
member of the MoCo Council to stop ZTA 19-07 – the radical zoning proposal to
impose cell towers 30 feet from our homes with no notice, no hearing, and no
community input. We’ve made progress: Councilmembers -- marveling aloud that so
many residents have urged them to oppose the ZTA -- did not do a straw vote on
June 29th, after all. We helped slow down the rush to pass this
resident-unfriendly bill.
But now the Council could vote on it as early as Tuesday, July 13th.
Help us press the Council to adopt instead an approach that would ensure broad
community input: The County should convene a multi-stakeholder advisory group
to recommend alternatives!
TAKE ACTION NOW: Please use this Action Tool today to quickly send a NEW letter
to each Councilmember. (Use the sample letter or write your own.)
Urge them to support a stakeholder working group – made up of residents,
municipal governments, industry, and homeowner/tenant associations and/or other
community and public- interest groups. This advisory group should present the
Council with recommendations on cell-tower issues that prioritize the wellbeing
of all residents, in all zones, whether they rent or own their homes. Also,
tell the Council to reject the ZTA, and wait to act until it has fully
considered the advice of such a stakeholder group.
Time is short: The Council takes up the ZTA again July 13 th ! Please ACT NOW .
The Council has used this innovative method (convening a stakeholder working
group) to seek community input in the past. Now County Executive Marc Elrich
has proposed using it to address the issues raised by the ZTA. But the Council
won’t adopt this idea unless it hears a NEW outpouring of resident opposition
to the ZTA – and strong support for this alternative approach instead.
Please, before July 13 th , take action by going here to quickly send letter to
all Councilmembers.
