As a lawmaker, my number one priority is to ensure that we have safe, thriving
and prosperous communities. Unfortunately, as we come out of one of the most
difficult periods in our history, we are beginning to see a rise in certain
crimes especially in our low income communities that were hit hardest by the
pandemic. This is a trend we are seeing nationally and regionally, with impacts
in Montgomery County.
Addressing these issues will require a holistic and regional approach. It's why
this Thursday, April 14th at 6:30pm, I'm convening a solutions-focused
discussion with regional lawmakers including At-Large District of Columbia City
Council Member Robert White and Prince George’s County Council Chairman Calvin
Hawkins.

We all deserve to feel and be safe in our homes and communities. It is up to us
as lawmakers to ensure that social and early-intervention programs exist to
prevent and deter crime.
We will begin with a tribute to the late Bruce Johnson, beloved veteran news
