Subject: [PEN] Upcoming Retirement
Hi everyone -- I wanted to let folks know that I will be retiring as the
children's & teen services coordinator at the Takoma Park Maryland Library on
June 30.
It's been such an honor and a true privilege to work with so many wonderful
kids and families over the past 15 years -- thank you so much! Kids who were
babies when I started working at the library are now in high school, and those
who were in high school are now adults, perhaps with children of their own.
Through it all has been our connection around books and reading. It's been a
joy to help kids find great books to read, and also to hear their
recommendations for books I should read!
As some of you know, this job was a second career for me after 30 years as a
political and general assignment newspaper reporter. As I wrote in my farewell
article for the June city newsletter: "The access of a White House press pass
just doesn’t compare to the joy of connecting kids with books." It's not even
close!
So it's a bittersweet decision for me to retire. But I feel it's definitely the
right time for me, although I will miss working with our great new library
director, Jessica Jones. I'm excited to see how she will move our library
forward in new ways, even as she and other library staff navigate through our
upcoming reconstruction project.

Normally, I'd be able to tell folks about my retirement as you came through the
Library. Because our building remains closed until July 6, I can't do that, so
I'm taking the opportunity to let you know via this email.
