Peter notes that there will be a presentation on County and State laws
regarding paid family leave.

This is something I brought to the council after the Montgomery County
Council enacted a policy of providing paid parental leave for county
employees in July, although it's a benefit I've been trying to get the city
to take up since 2015. See
https://onetakoma.com/2022/08/01/takoma-park-should-enact-a-paid-family-leave-benefit-for-city-employees/.
City-worker union AFSCME 3399 joined the call last month.

I hope everyone will support the city's providing paid family leave for
employees.

Peter, beyond county and state laws, if I were on the council, I'd want to
know about policies in other progressive jurisdictions and what options the
County Council considered and rejected. I'd want AFSCME 3399 and UFCW Local
400 to participate in crafting policy options for the city, in the spirit
of labor cooperation, noting that the final decision remains the council's.
And of course I'd ask staff for a basic comparative analysis.

Thanks,

Seth
