Cathy, you did that SO kindly and clearly, and you speak for many of us, I’m
sure. Thank you, truly, for making the request for the sake of the 'hood. The
City may be responsible for the overhanging tree limbs, but foliage – leaves,
vines, branches -- that spills through fences or otherwise into the public
sidewalk space is OUR responsibility. Those of us with bushes need to heed
this request, especially now, with so much heat and rain. A little care and
neighborliness goes a long way.
(One year our dog – walking with us, leashed -- picked up Poison Ivy from
overgrown vines in a neighbor’s bushes. Didn’t bother the dog a bit, but the
rest of us got PI from rubbing against his coat; it was awful.)

Subject: A request to neighbors
To: north-takoma@xxxxxxxxxxxxx <mailto:north-takoma@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

The request is that we all monitor the vegetation that intrudes on the public
sidewalk.
So many of us are walkers in the neighborhood so I'm imagining you know what I
mean when I say that there are many places where the sidewalk is partly blocked
by plants, bushes, trees. The pedestrian has to bob and weave to avoid being
accosted by the greenery. Or, I end up walking in the street because the
public sideway is mostly blocked.
My hope is that everyone can do the neighborly thing. Go out and walk the
whole public sidewalk that abuts your property. Lop of the stuff that
challenges the pedestrian.
My commitment is to monitor my wisteria and ivy that pokes out of the fence but
intrudes on the pedestrians.
Thanks for considering this.
