BIRD WALK AT GEORGE WASHINGTON BIRTHPLACE
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 26
On Saturday, October 26, the Northern Neck Audubon Society (NNAS) is hosting a
bird walk at 9:00 a.m. at George Washington Birthplace National Monument Park
on Pope’s Creek between Montross and Oak Grove in Westmoreland County. The
walk will be led by Melissa Gross, NNAS President.
The National Park Service allows visitors to view wildlife at the birthplace of
our first president. In addition to wildlife, the park offers stunning vistas
of the Potomac River from beautiful bluffs. There are woods, ponds, open
fields and beaches. Possible sightings include early migrating waterfowl,
(wood ducks, Black ducks, buffleheads, and surf scoters), kinglets, Northern
gannets, warblers (including pine and yellow), bald Eagles, royal terns, and
gulls.
The GPS address is 1732 Popes Creek Road, Colonial Beach, VA. The park, located
off of Route 3, is approximately 22 miles west of Warsaw and 12 miles east of
Route 301. From Route 3, turn north onto Pope’s Creek Road (Route 204). Meet
in the visitor’s center parking lot at 8:30 a.m. The walk will begin at 9:00
a.m.
