There were 50 or so bobolinks just beyond my driveway this morning. I was
able to set my scope up so Sylvia and I could study them for a few minutes.
They are a noisy, gregarious species. In breeding plumage the males are
said to look like someone who has put his tuxedo on backwards - a solid
black face, throat and belly but extensive gold and white markings on the
back of the head and down towards the rump. Just passing through; most
years I miss them.
