It looks like the killdeer and pipits returned in numbers the minute the
fields around the house began to thaw. I counted 34 killdeer and 60-plus
pipits during a trip up the lane this afternoon and I'm sure there were
more beyond the reach of my binoculars. There were a few savannah and song
sparrows mixed in, along with a few starlings, mourning dove and turkey
vultures.
