Dear Friend of the Bay,

Right now, your delegate's vote could determine the fate of menhaden, "the most important fish in the sea." This vote isn't just about this tiny fish—*the health of Bay's entire ecology and economy depend on it.*

*Urge your delegate—before 3 p.m. TOMORROW—to support House Bill 1610, an essential bill that implements the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission's coastwide menhaden management plan.* <http://chesapeake.cbf.org/site/R?i=8fXMxTfPtuuWy_nlEB1jxQ>

Last fall, the Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission (ASMFC) adopted a new menhaden management plan that had overwhelming support from stakeholders all along the Atlantic. This plan is good for both the environment and all the businesses that depend on a healthy menhaden population, including the charter boat fleet and the Bay's beloved blue crab fishery.

But Virginia's House of Delegates must approve legislation for this fisheries management plan to take effect. Failure to do so endangers the critical menhaden population and could lead to serious sanctions, including the shutdown of all menhaden fisheries in the Commonwealth, threatening the livelihoods of thousands of hardworking Virginians. *Delegates could be voting on House Bill 1610 as early as/tomorrow afternoon/.*

*Take action—before 3 p.m. Tuesday. Urge your delegate to support House Bill 1610, which makes required updates to Virginia's menhaden management plan and ensures a healthy population for years to come.* <http://chesapeake.cbf.org/site/R?i=2exKE-6C4rS1i3s9FEFwkg>

We need your help to ensure Virginia's implementation of a good, science-based fisheries plan. *Virginia's environment, economy, and way of life are at stake. *
