AUDUBON PICNIC & BIRD WALK MONDAY SEPTEMBER 12
The Northern Neck Audubon Society invites the public to the annual picnic and a
bird walk on Monday, September 12th at Belle Isle State Park (1632 Belle Isle
Road, Lancaster, VA) on the Rappahannock River. The parking fee will be waived
for those who identify themselves as Audubon attendees.
The NNAS Board of Directors will meet at 4:00 p.m. Anyone may attend the board
meeting. The picnic will be held at 5:00 p.m. at Picnic Shelter #3 beyond the
Visitors' Center. Please bring a dish to share: appetizer, salad, main dish or
dessert with appropriate serving utensil. NNAS will provide beverages and
picnic ware.
The picnic will be followed at 6:00 p.m. by a bird walk. Led by Frank Schaff
and Jeff Wright, this is the chapter's only evening bird walk and an easy walk
on flat trails. It is an opportunity to experience the park as the sun sets
and the birds are settling for the night. On past walks, up to 30 species of
birds have been observed, including warblers, vireos, flycatchers, swallows,
osprey, blue herons and bald eagles.
