AUDUBON BIRD WALK AT GEORGE WASHINGTON BIRTHPLACE
MONDAY, OCTOBER 9

On Monday October 9, the Northern Neck Audubon Society (NNAS) will conduct a 
bird walk at 9:00 a.m. at George Washington Birthplace National Monument Park 
on Pope’s Creek between Montross and Oak Grove in Westmoreland County.  The 
walk will be led by Jeff Wright and Melissa Gross.

The National Park Service allows visitors to view wildlife at the birthplace of 
our first president.  In addition to wildlife, the park offers stunning vistas 
of the Potomac River from beautiful bluffs.  There are woods, ponds, open 
fields and beaches.  Possible sightings include:  early migrating water fowl, 
(Wood Ducks, Black Ducks, Buffleheads, and Surf Scoters), Kinglets, Northern 
Gannets, maybe ten warblers (including Pine and Yellow), Bald Eagles, Royal 
Terns, and Gulls.

 The park, located off of Route 3, is approximately 22 miles west of Warsaw and 
12 miles east of Route 301.  From Route 3, turn north onto Pope’s Creek Road 
(Route 204).  Meet at the visitor’s center at 9:00 a.m.
