A friend of mine Kate Stanburry has reported that a few male Northern Cardinals
have problems standing and perching.

As she approached one he flew up into a tree. When he attempted to perch he
couldn't grip the branch and fluttered to the ground. She placed one in a box
with a screen on the top and it has been taking water and is able to eat
sunflower seeds. It lays on it's abdomen and props itself up with it's tail.

It sounds like a pesticide problem to me.

Her neighbor across the street reported similar behaviors from her Cardinals.

Does anyone have any ideas.
