Hello Members and Friends;
I am attaching an updated slate for the election coming up on Monday. The
changes are the result of 2 unexpected resignations of the treasurer and
secretary.
The past year has been a very difficult one for our organization. We have come
up against a situation at Hickory Hollow Natural Area Preserve that has
severely fractured the Board of Directors, and resulted in 4 resignations. A
summary of this situation was sent out earlier this year, and can be found on
our website. It centers on the handling of the Hickory Hollow NAP Management
Plan that NNAS owns and manages, in partnership with the Department of
Conservation & Recreation. (A quick note: the purchase of the property was made
possible by a large grant from the state of Va., in addition to NNAS Funds).
Those of us left on the Board are working to effect some kind of change in the
plan. But the wheels of government, at whatever level, turn slowly. We cannot
change the plan overnight, or even in a couple of months. I am truly sorry for
this. Again, we have done the best we can with the information we have gained
from many sources, including botanists, ecologists, and state officials.
Which leads me to the question: Would any of you out there be willing to step
up and fill a position in our Board as a Director? In addition, we are suddenly
in need of a Treasurer, & a Secretary. In order for this chapter to survive, we
need help. Out of an organization that has @250-300 members, very few are doing
the work that needs to be done to keep NNAS afloat. Please consider a term on
the Board. Thank you.
