My friend, Cathy, lives on Swanview Drive on LaGrange Creek which is the second
creek upriver from Urbanna on the
Rappahannock. Below are excerpts of several emails today:
"We have a white goose with all the Canada geese on LaGrange Creek this
morning. A snow goose? Definitely darker when seen from behind... and bill is
pinkish. But no definite black wing tips. I haven't seen it fly.
We rarely see a bufflehead. But we have lots (at least 30) mergansers. And
many (Tundra) swans. 20 or so come up to eat, but there have been others
keeping their distance across the creek. We have also had lots and lots, maybe
100 Canada geese the last week or so. They usually stay at the Bray's pond
across the creek, but every once in a while they choose the brackish water.
The snow goose was hanging out with them. Pretty sure that it was a snow goose.
We went to North Carolina last week to see my little brother. He works at the
Aquarium on Pine Knoll Shores. Beautiful aquarium. And we saw the bird show.
A turkey buzzard and a pelican. They obeyed commands flying and hopping from
perch to perch. It was great!!
It's a drive, but a wonderful place to visit!"
