Hi Reta,
Here is the report of yesterday's Audubon Club Birdwalk at Belle Isle Park. Nine members and guests arrived at the Horse Parking lot to start our walk led by Frank Schaff at 8:00 AM. It was nice and sunny and not too cold, although a bit nippy starting out, in the 40's. The list of bird species totaled 32. When leaving the Park to go home, Lance and I saw a gorgeous male Wood Duck in some water on the right hand side just past the Office. Here is what the group saw: American Crow, Northern Cardinal, Eastern Bluebird, Blue Jay, Northern Mockingbird, Yellow-rumpled Warbler, White-throated Sparrow, Canada Geese, Carolina Wren, Tundra Swan, Pine Warbler, Song Sparrow, Ring-billed Gull, Bald Eagle, Swamp Sparrow, European Starling, Red-bellied Woodpecker, Downey Woodpecker, Herring Gull, Brown-headed Nuthatch, Tufted Titmouse, Carolina Chickadee, Mourning Dove, Great Black-backed Gull, Common Loon, Double-crested Cormorant, Bufflehead, White-winged Scoter, Great Blue Heron, Killdeer, Common Grackle and Turkey Vulture. Of special interest, there were two Bald Eagles by a nest and it looks like there may be eggs. One Eagle would leave the nest and the other one stayed behind, perhaps sitting on eggs.
Also the White-winged Scoter is a rare sighting in our area!
We finished up too early to go to lunch just a bit past 10:00AM so no restaurant visit this time. A good time was had by all!
                            Happy birding,
                            Maryalyce J. Johnsen
