As I have learned, the trapping/killing of Beavers at Hickory Hollow has
proceeded without a vote or, even a notice given to the full Board. As a Board
Member, I find this an outrage to transparency to say the least! An
organization which is to be governed by a Board is, I think, via the President,
required to keep ALL Board members apprised of plans or possibility of actions
done in the name of all. Clearly, not all were even informed of the hiring of
a Trapper for Hickory Hollow. There were and are non-lethal alternatives (such
as offered by Ecotone Co.) to brutally killing the Beavers. These were not
seriously explored by those zealots who prefer killing as a solution. For
myself, I want no part in the "Governing" of the Northern Neck Audubon Chapter
if a few members of the Board act independently, destructively and,
clandestinely! This, all supposedly for the protection of the Kentucky Yellow
Lady-slipper, which, until it was "discovered" there about 20 years ago, had
apparently thrived for hundreds or thousands of years without the very dubious
help of management by Humans...who, of course, always know best!
My Resignation is effective immediately.
