SATURDAY BIRD WALK APRIL 27 AT CHILTON WOODS On Saturday, April 27, the Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct a bird walk at 8:00 a.m. at Chilton Woods State Forest led by Frank Schaff. Chilton Woods is located in Lancaster County. This is prime time for migrating birds, especially warblers. Recently, Frank Schaff has seen the following birds: Black-and-white, Northern Parula, Chestnut-sided and Yellow-throated warblers, Scarlet and Summer tanagers, Yellow-billed cuckoos, and Acadian flycatchers. Directions From Kilmarnock, take Route 3 West to Lively. Continue on Route 3 approximately 1 ½ miles and turn right onto Route 617 (Alphonso Road). Go 1 ¼ miles and turn left onto Route 600 (Lara Road). Go 1 ½ miles and turn left onto Route 602 (Field Trial Road). Meet at the first parking lot on the left. From Heathsville, take Route 201 South approximately 5 ½ miles. At Miskimon, turn right onto Route 602 (Miskimon Road). Go to the end. Turn left onto Route 600 (Lara Road). Make the next right onto Route 602 (Field Trial Road). Meet at the first parking lot on the left. From Warsaw, take Route 3 East approximately 12 miles to Robley. Go approximately 2 miles farther and turn left onto Route 602 (Field Trial Road.) Meet at the second parking lot on the right. There will be several pairs of loaner binoculars available.
