AUDUBON BIRD WALK, MARCH 25 IN GLOUCESTER COUNTY
AT ROSEWELL RUINS & MIDDLE PENINSULA STATE PARK
On Saturday, March 25, the Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct an early
spring bird walk at the Rosewell Plantation Ruins and the new Middle Peninsula
State Park. Sightings will include early migrating song birds and winter birds
and water fowl not yet migrating.
The walk will be led by Jeff Wright and Melissa Gross. Participants will meet
at 9:00 a.m. at the Rosewell Foundation Office, 5113 Rosewell Lane, Gloucester,
VA.
Historic Rosewell Plantation was begun in 1725. Google Rosewell Plantation for
pictures and description. The 431 acres of the Middle Peninsula State Park was
originally part of Rosewell Plantation. Still under development and not yet
open to the public, the park is on the York River and Aberdeen Creek in view of
the Coleman Bridge.
Rosewell is 20 minutes from the Walmart intersection of Routes 17 and 3 in
Gloucester Court House. From the intersection, go 4 miles on Route 17 South.
Turn Right on Hickory Fork Road (711 on the corner). Go 2.8 miles and turn
left on South Aberdeen Creek Road. Go 2 miles and keep left onto Rosewell
Plantation Road. Go .3 mile and bear left onto Rosewell Lane. Go .2 mile and
park at the Foundation Office.
Several pairs of loaner binoculars will be available. Check out the NNAS
