A service of the Northern Neck Audubon Society---
On Saturday, May 14th, the Northern Neck Audubon Society will conduct a bird
walk at Bush Mill Stream Natural Area Preserve in Northumberland County at 9:00
a.m. This walk is open to all: beginning and expert birders and especially
school age children and those unable to attend the monthly Monday walks.
Several pairs of loaner binoculars will be available.

Bush Mill Preserve is one of the Northern Neck’s many hidden gems. It offers
forested and tidal habitat. Possible sightings from the observation platform
overlooking the freshwater tidal marsh are great blue herons, other wading birds,
osprey, bald eagles and spring migratory birds (and possibly otters).

Directions are as follows:
From Route 360 near Heathsville, take Rt. 201 South.
Go 3.4 miles and turn left onto Rt. 642. The preserve entrance is 0.3 miles on the left.

From Route 3 at Lancaster Courthouse, take Courthouse Road (Rt. 600) North. Continue straight at McNeals Corner (now Rt. 201).
Turn left Beanes Corner. Continue on Rt. 201 approximately 4 ¾ miles. Turn left onto Rt. 642. The preserve entrance is 0.3 miles on the left.

For additional information, contact Frank Schaff at 804-462-0084.

Best wishes,

Bonnie Wilson (for Maggie Gerdts)
