Dear Maricarmen and NJAMC Friends -
My heart is lifted by all of this good news and I am grateful to each and every
one of you who played a role in these two conferences. Thank you ALL for ALL
that you do! [😃] I am sorry that I can't attend our next May meeting,
but CCP faculty are required to work at commencement - and honestly, I really
enjoy being able to celebrate with our students so I don't mind working.
I look forward to seeing folks at our June beach lunch and thank you again for
all of these tremendously uplifting updates!
Jennie

Dear brothers/sisters:
First, let me remind you that the next division meeting.. The date is May 7,
2016 (Saturday) from 11 am to 1 pm at the Lawrenceville Public Library (2751
Brunswick Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648).
Please, rsvp by 5/2/16 if you plan for the right number of refreshments and
copies. NJCA assigns limited funds to cover for these expenses.
Second, we have successful presentations at the White Privilege Conference in
Philadelphia on Friday 4/15/2016. There was some increased turnout from the
morning session to the afternoon session indicating the significance given by
the audience to the topic being presented: counselors' imperative work with
discrimination, oppression, micro-aggressions, and privilege. The morning
session showcased the work done by community leaders in Princeton in
conjunction with NJAMC past president Roberto Schiraldi and the afternoon
session was carried out by our division and centered around the strategy of
broaching and non-violent communication strategies. Special thanks to Sherrita
Hughes for her collaboration during the afternoon session.
We also presented two workshops at the NJCA conference which were held back to
back on 5/15/2016 from 1:15 pm to 4:30 pm. Similarly to the Philadelphia
conference, the turnout was excellent for the first workshop on
micro-aggressions and even better for the 2nd workshop (topic of broaching).
According to the volunteer who monitored attendance for the conference, our 2nd
workshop was the one with the highest attendance at the NJCA conference. Once
again, the high turnout demonstrates the increasing demand and significance of
these training topics for all counselors.
Congratulations to those members who had a vital role at the NJCA workshops:
Roberto Schiraldi, Inspira Joyce Williams, Sudha Natarajan, Jacob Griffin and
Aisha Jabbar. Special thanks to Aida Hernandez, Natasha Brodzinski and Kathryn
Nyce for their attendance and support. A few of my former students attended
these workshops which I was thrilled about.
In addition to all these activities, I presented a workshop on Sunday morning
on counselors' self-care. To my surprise, NJCA president Randy Clark showed up
to this event for the last part of the session and offered his full support for
our Fall 2016 conference. Finally, one topic mentioned by Randy at the
conference was the need for counselors to engage in advocacy. I totally
agree. Considering all my responsibilities with NJAMC and my highly demanding
full time job, I am looking for some member(s) who would like to help with the
NJAMC advocacy work for this year. Your support and collaboration are
absolutely necessary in advocating for NJAMC.
Third, If you hear of any member who indicates that she/he is not getting
meeting reminders, tell them that they need to sign up for the NJAMC list
serv. Nobody else can do this for them. The same applies for being removed
from the list serv. For sign up instructions, email Jennifer
(jchiaramonti@xxxxxxx<mailto:jchiaramonti@xxxxxxx>).
P.S. We need a person to take notes at the May 7th meeting. Can I count on
someone to support Jennifer Chiaramonti who can't attend this meeting due to a
work conflict? Your help is much appreciated.
Enjoy this incredible weather!
