Hey Steve,
I'd like to add an agenda item - prescribed burning support through NHFG Small
Grants Program. We've talked about it in the past and there were enough
disparate opinions on how to approach it that I haven't felt comfortable
proposing anything to NHFG staff and administrators just yet. I'm hoping we
can discuss one more time and come to some consensus on how to move forward
with a proposal.
Here is the standard I developed thus far.
Prescribed Burning
I. Can be used to maintain or restore woodland openings, grasslands, old
fields, shrublands, or to regenerate oak.
II. Wildlife and habitat enhancement must be the primary objective of the
prescribed burn.
III. Can be used for burn plan development, fireline preparation (brush
hogging, brontosaurus mowing, hand clearing, etc.), or contracting with a burn
boss.
IV. Burn plans need to meet NH Prescribed Fire Council or National Wildfire
Coordinating Group specifications and be developed by an individual meeting the
qualifications set forth by one of these organizations. A burn plan with
relevant approval signatures, including but not limited to the landowner, burn
boss, and burn planner needs to be submitted with the Small Grants Program
invoice before payment will be rendered. Burn plan specifications can be found
