Father allows half the village to rape his 11 year-old daughter August 31 2002, a special anti-terrorist court in Pakistan sentenced six men to death by hanging for the gang rape of a 30 year old woman ordered by a tribal council in Southern Punjab. The case was widely reported upon in the western media, and drew the condemnation of international human rights groups. News of another news rape case, this time in Belgium, also broke in the same week. This case did not received nearly as much coverage. 19 members of the same village were found guilty of systematically raping or sexually abusing an 11-year-old girl who had been prostituted by her own father. The men who abused her included the family doctor, the village lumberjack, the car repairman and the village antique-shop owner. They were given sentences ranging from six months up to five years. Both cases are just too horrific to comprehend, never mind compare. But what can be compared, and should be compared, is the way in which the Belgian case and the Pakistani case were covered in the Western media. http://www.khilafah.com/home/category.php?DocumentID=5025&TagID=8 ============================================================ You can choose whether you prefer to receive regular emails or a weekly digest by visiting http://www.muslim-news.net Archive: http://archive.muslim-news.net You can subscribe by sending an email to request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "subscribe" (without quotes) in the subject line, or by visiting http://www.muslim-news.net You can unsubscribe by sending an email to request@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word "unsubscribe" (without quotes) in the subject line, or by visiting http://www.muslim-news.net You are welcome to submit any relevant news story to submit@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx For regular Islamic cultural articles by email, send email to revivalist-subscribe@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx ============================================================
