Department of Agriculture
The Rural Development Agency invites applications for funding to support 
renewable energy systems and energy improvements for agricultural producers and 
rural small businesses. Approximately $22.8 million in FY 2004 funding is 
expected to be available for awards ranging from $2,500 to $500,000. Grants 
will not exceed 25 percent of allowable project costs. Eligible are 
agricultural producers or small businesses that can demonstrate financial need. 
Entities must be at least 51 percent owned, directly or indirectly, by 
individuals who are either citizens of the U.S. or reside in the U.S. after 
being legally admitted for permanent residence. Applications are due 75 days

Department of Defense
The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is soliciting proposals 
for funding under the Learning Applied to Ground Robots program. This program 
seeks to develop and demonstrate a new generation of learned perception and 
control algorithms for autonomous ground vehicles. Multiple awards ranging from 
$1.5 to $2 million are anticipated. All responsible sources capable of 
satisfying the government's needs may submit proposals, which are due June 17,

theoretical studies of aerosol radiative forcing of climate under the 
Atmospheric Science Program. This program seeks to provide and improve the 
scientific knowledge needed to simulate and predict radiative forcing by

DOE is soliciting proposals for innovative technologies that have the potential 
for significant energy savings in residential and commercial buildings. 
Projects should seek to advance energy efficient equipment, envelope, and whole 
building technologies. Approximately $11 million is expected to be available 
for 8-14 awards ranging from $100,000 to $1.5 million; cost-sharing of at least 
20 percent is required. Projects may be proposed with performance periods 
between 10 months and three years. Awards with durations more than 
approximately 12 months may be partially funded in future fiscal years.

greenhouse gas emissions and mitigation from land-use, land-use change, and 
forestry activities. Three categories of economic modeling efforts will be 
considered: general equilibrium, partial equilibrium land-use sectoral 
modeling, and integrated assessment modeling of land-use climate change

Advanced Information Systems Technology Program. This program seeks to develop

NASA also will be soliciting proposals for the Hubble Space Telescope (HST) 
robotic servicing/deorbit module. The module is part of an overall concept that 
could be used to extend the useful life of the observatory through various 
system hardware augmentations and then ultimately safely deorbit HST at the end

Hematology. These centers provide a base for comprehensive research in 
hematologic diseases. To be eligible, institutions must have a significant

Dana Foundation
The Dana Foundation invites applications for funding to support a competitive 
program in brain and immuno-imaging. This program seeks to accelerate the 
development and application of innovative cellular and molecular imaging to 
clinical research on the functions and malfunctions of the brain, the immune 
system, and their interactions, in normal and aberrant functioning. Successful 
applicants proposing to undertake research using conventional brain tissue 
imaging technologies will receive funding totaling up to $100,000 over a period 
of up to three years. Applicants for a cellular or molecular imaging project 
can request up to $300,000 for a period of up to three years. Each medical 
school and each of the few select research institutions that have been invited 
by letter may nominate two applicants, one for each of the program's two 
tracks. Institutions that are not specifically invited by letter but have 
affiliations with a U.S. medical school are eligible to submit a pplications to 
their affiliated medical school dean for consideration. Projects involving 
collaborations with NIH intramural researchers or industry scientists are

GlaxoSmithKline
GlaxoSmithKline invites applications for funding to support research in the 
development of HIV/AIDS drug therapeutics. Research areas include drugs aimed 
at treating infection, prophylactic vaccines and microbicides designed to 
prevent transmission of the virus. Approximately $250,000 is available for 
awards, which will range from $25,000 to $150,000. Applicants must have an 
M.D., Ph.D. or the equivalent and work in academic centers, nonprofit 
institutions, or for-profit businesses such as biotech start-up companies.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation is soliciting proposals for funding under 
its Substance Abuse Policy Research Program. Projects should seek to increase 
understanding of public and private policy interventions to prevent, treat and 
reduce the harm caused by the use of tobacco, alcohol and other drugs. Up to 
$3.5 million is available for awards. Projects requesting less than $100,000 
will be accepted at any time. Projects requesting $100,000 to $400,000 require 
brief proposals to be submitted by Aug. 27, 2004; full proposals, which are by 
invitation only, will be due Jan. 15, 2005. Preference will be given to 
applicants that are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue
