Anyone who owns a print thesaurus probably only has one, rather than
several different thesauri. If the word you want to look up can't be
found in your thesaurus, you're out of luck. However, there are many
different thesauri online, and if one of them doesn't have your word,
there's a good chance another one will.
- Specialization
Of the many thesauri to be found online, some of them are specialized
thesauri, dedicated solely to a specific field of study or area of
expertise.

- Frequent updates
A print thesaurus, by its very nature, is never going to be as current as
it possibly could be. The print version doesn't change, until the
publisher puts out a new edition the next year (or next few years).
However, with an online thesaurus, new words can be added anytime, so an
online thesaurus will generally be much more current than a print one.

Google combined with the word synonyms and this brings a number of
thesaurus entries for the word being checked in the Google search results:
