As political unrest swept through the Middle East, energy prices have
soared. Given the pervasive impact that energy prices have in input costs
for many end products, and the broader economic implications of energy
inflation, "Where is the price of oil going to top out?'' has become one
of the most-asked issues on Wall Street.

So we posed that question and many others to Greg Priddy, the global oil
analyst at Eurasia Group, a leading authority on handicapping political
risks around the world for business interests.

Here are excerpts of his conversation with Barrons.com.

There will be a little bit of demand disruption. But demand for oil is
quite inelastic, and I am not sure that we are at a level now that is
necessarily going to reach a tipping point that pushes the developed
economies back into recession. It's a matter of the shock to consumer
confidence and the broader economic impacts that definitely takes money
out of consumers. But I don't think we are at a point now where that would
be catastrophic.
