DOLAKHA, Feb 16: Lalita Devi Karki, a 79 year old resident of Dolakha,
donated land worth Rs 1.5 million to a local community FM radio based in
the district headquarters Charikot. The plot with an area of about five
annas is located in the most scenic part of Charikot.

Lalita is the wife of deceased social worker Lalit Bahadur Karki.

After laying foundation stone for her the FM building she said that she
had donated the land in order to strengthen the media. She said that she
was furthering the work of her late husband.

Lalit Bahadur was formerly a subedar in the Nepal Army, who later became a
social worker. After his death in 2050, Lalita has been giving continuity
to his work. Her eldest son Mahendra Bahadur, an engineer by profession,
has assisted her in several of her endeavors.

Lalita, who lives in her own house in Sitlima, provides food and clothes
to ascetics every year. She also feeds yogis who visit the temple that her
husband built. She has also supported educational activities in Maeling
VDC. Lalita, who is a mother of six sons, said she has always encouraged
her children to contribute to social causes.

A total of over Rs 1,130,000 had been pledged for the construction of FM
building. Of this, Rs 0.5 million has been pledged by industrialist Janak
Basnet.

Dolakha based Hamro Radio will be aired in 17 districts. It is one of
three radio services in the district.
