Common houseplant pests

Though houseplants are a wonderful way to bring a bit of the outdoors into
your home, plant-loving pests often come into your home as well.

Prevention is always the best control. New plants often bring unwanted
insect stowaways, so the best method of pest prevention is to carefully
inspect a plant for pests before buying it. Look for any small insects in
the plant. Pay careful attention to the underside of the leaves. To be on
the safe side, you can always place a new plant away from your other
plants to make sure there werent any pests that could spread. Another
preventative measure with new plants is to give them a thorough watering
and washing outside before introducing them into your home.

Common houseplant pests

The second best method of prevention is to take good care of your plants,
with particular care to give plants just the right amount of water.
Conditions that are too wet or too dry can attract pests.

Prevention is best, but that is rarely fool-proof. If you catch a pest
infestation early enough though you can usually prevent it from spreading
to other plants.
