My potted tropical plants have been loving this warm, muggy weather, but
it actually isn't that far off when they will have to be brought in for
the winter. I'm already starting to get mine ready.

First off, I keep them happy with appropriate watering. Too often can be
worse than too little, so I give my plants a good soaking, then let them
get tongue-dragging dry before I do it again.
.
And I cover potting soil with bark mulch to keep it from wicking dry in
the outdoor air. The only problem is that sometimes critters - lizards and
such - nestle under the mulch, so when I bring my plants indoors I clean
off the old mulch and apply fresh, but that's not a bad thing anyway.

I use Osmocote (slow-release fertilizer beads) to give plants a dose of
plant food every time I water, and occasionally hit them with some Miracle
Gro. And by the way, I always use fertilizers at half strength, which is
plenty for good, steady growth without pushing the plants too much.
