U.S. Doctors Target McDonald's with Ad U.S. Doctors Target McDonald's with Ad By QMI Agency Last Updated: September 14, 2010 5:14pm The Toronto Sun http://www.torontosun.com/news/world/2010/09/14/15349186.html The world's biggest fast-food chain is lashing out at a group of U.S. doctors for launching a TV ad that links eating McDonald's to untimely death. The ad, commissioned by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), begins with an overweight, middle-aged man lying dead on a stretcher, while a woman cries over his corpse. The camera pans around to reveal he's clutching a partially eaten McDonald's hamburger. The McDonald's golden arches flash on the screen with the words: I was lovin' it, a play on the burger giant's slogan, I'm lovin' it. Then, a voiceover says: High cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attacks. Tonight, make it vegetarian."Doctors' McDonald's attack ad VIDEO http://www.theglobeandmail.com/life/health/

McDonald's ubiquitous golden arches then trace the dead man's feet with the text "I was lovin' it," a stinging pun on the fast-food chain's long-running slogan "I'm lovin' it." A voiceover says, "high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attacks. Tonight, make it vegetarian." Produced by Washington-based health lobby Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), the commercial is set to be aired in Washington DC during the popular The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on Thursday. PCRM says it is also considering running it in Chicago, Detroit, Houston and Los Angeles The ad "takes aim at McDonald?s high-fat menu, with the goal of drawing Washingtonians' attention to the city?s high rates of heart disease deaths and its high density of fast-food restaurants," PCRM said in a statement.
