Tough Interview Questions Part 2

The Questions

Hand the interviewee a balance sheet or income statement and ask the candidate how he/she could improve the company.

What companies does applicant think are great and why? Then ask why the applicant why didn't they apply to them.

If the applicant were the CEO, what would they do to gain an edge on the competition?

What kind of support from the company does the applicant need to be successful and what would they do if that support went away?

If the applicant were in your seat, what would they ask the prospective employee?

Give the applicant two marketing brochures from competitors and ask which one they would perceive to be a bigger threat.

Ask the candidate why they want to be successful.

Tell the candidate a rough salary and ask them why they would be worth it.

Ask the candidate who their favorite historical figure is and why.

For a marketing or sales candidate, ask how they would go about managing a marketing or sales team given a certain budget.

The Art of Competitive Interviewing - Stamping Out the Competition

As of April 2010, the United States unemployment rate was 9.5%. Even though this number might signal that the job market is looking up, it still means that 1 out of every 10 people within the nation is actively seeking employment. Our sales staffing agencies feel that not all that much has changed from 2008 and 2009. There is still a lot talent on the open market and fierce competition for any available position. Often, my candidates will want to know about the other people we have sent in to our clients and who are currently going after the same job. As a recruiter, I obviously cannot tell them much as it is unfair to give one candidate a competitive advantage over another. In 2007, we would usually have about 3 good candidates going for one particular job. In 2010, it is more like 5 or 6. Keep in mind that this number is also contingent on outside factors such as industry and compensation.

The Sales Side of SEO
<http://www.kasplacement.com/sales-seo.php>

If you were to give the New England Patriots and the Detroit Lions the same playbook, the New England Patriots would, undoubtedly come out with more touchdowns, more field goals, more forced turnovers and a high completion rate. The same is true for SEO. Anybody can go online and look up the basic components of search engine optimization. Among other things, they include: strong meta-tags, meta-descriptions, online branding, link building, frequent content update and the proper selection of keywords to go after. Just like in football, SEO is all about execution and creativity.
