                         "Famous Cases Revisited"

                                 Abstract

Forensic science has emerged as a significant element in efforts to resolve civil, criminal, and public safety issues. The court has also become increasingly dependent on scientific evidence in civil and criminal litigations. The goals of this presentation are to describe (1) The concepts of justice through science, (2) Recent advances in forensic science, and (3) The re-examination of some famous cases through new forensic techniques.

A review and analysis of many such instances will demonstrate the complexity and sensitivity of the investigations into these kinds of cases. Several famous cases, such as, The JFK Assassination, The Death of Vincent Forster, The Taiwan President Shooting Case, The Homicide of Nicole Simpson, The Kidnapping of Elizabeth Smart, The Murder of Laci Peterson, The Disappearance of George Smith, and The Death of JonBenet Ramsey will be discussed. The objective of this presentation will not be to convince the audience of the truthfulness or validity of one theory vs. another, but rather to clarify for skeptics and cynics some issues related to these cases. In addition, new developments and the new forensic techniques that can now be used in the investigation of such cases will also be discussed.
