The *Bates College* Department of Chemistry seeks applicants for the position of Assistant in Instruction (AI). The AI works closely with chemistry faculty members teaching chemistry laboratories, performing instrument maintenance and conducting laboratory safety training. A major focus of the position coordinating the laboratory component of the two-semester Introductory Chemistry course sequence. This includes preparing and participating in the development of experiments, teaching several of the laboratory sections each semester, training and overseeing the student teaching assistants and their grading of labs, compiling the laboratory manual and administering the prelab quizzes. This is a 10-month, academic year position with salary and benefits payable over a 12-month period. A bachelor's degree in chemistry or a related field is required and teaching experience is preferred.
