Hi Dennis. I think you nailed it. The red spot is definitely a mite so you can disregard it as any kind of helpful identification feature. The angle is a little off and it's a little soft but it looks to me at a glance like a heavily worn angle moth (Macaria/Diagrammia) or related. The rounded wingtips don't match most in that genus but that might be an artifact of the angle at which the photo was taken. Check out Larry Line's photo of Macaria bisignata (6342). Good mothing, all. I photographed at the woodland edge in Guilford County at about 3:15 in the afternoon on May 15th. It was approximately one inch or slightly larger from wingtip to wingtip. The red spot is throwing me off. The photo isn't sharp enough to tell for sure if it's part of the moth or something else such as a mite. (This is a cropped telephoto shot, not a macro.) Can anyone help with an ID? Thanks, Dennis -- Dennis Burnette Greensboro, NC Guilford County deburnette@xxxxxxxxxxxx http://www.flickr.com/photos/dennisburnette/
