Today resting on my front door was a day-flying moth I'd never seen before in the 21 years I've lived in my house. Alypia octomaculata is quite distinctive, and it enthusiastically sipped the nectar of the iris I relocated it to. My research told me the caterpillars like grape and Virginia creeper, and I've got plenty of both.
