during a meeting at the Ohio Genealogical Society http://www.ogs.org/ on Main
Street, i was able to demonstrate the Gramps genealogical software to a group
of researchers. This was done using a Ubuntu version live-cd that includes
Gramps.
There was agreement among those attending that a free program for genealogy
was a
good thing.Gramps newest live-cd is based on Dapper Drake.

The Gramps developement team decided to use Ubuntu because was available.
A long time ago i had seen a comment on a Debian board that new users were
requesting a Debian Official live-cd. At that time they were advised to use
Knoppix.

In my opinion, Debian should have maintained an official live-cd based on the
  network install cd 180 MB.
