It looked better tonight, not as red and no pus. But that was before I
had my husband help me comb out some poop that had got in his fur near there
last night. Then I spritzed the bare skin with water and patted with baby wipes
to make sure it was clean. I was very careful not to touch it very much
The skin got a bit red, but rabbit skin kinda gets really pink or
red when you mess with it. Then I put SSD on it and he’s sitting propped
upright with rolled towels until my husband gets the newborn diapers because
the ones I got are too big I think. I wanna put diapers on until the
skin isn’t red anymore. With a few hours of freedom from the diaper a couple
times a day where i have him propped up and off that leg/hip. That’s the plan
but we’ll see.

I have 1 yard of some super soft faux sheepskin I just got off Amazon that
is softer than what I already had from joanns for my elder bun Bilbo several
years ago I’ll check out the place you mentioned too.

I think I’ll use the SSD cream today and Friday maybe until hopefully the
redness goes away and then switch to a barrier like the stuff you recommended
or A&D. Vet said cornstarch, but that didn’t work and that’s why I’m
in this mess.

I’ll try to get a better close up tomorrow and show you guys and maybe you
can show your friend and see what she thinks. Our vet just said SDD and
cornstarch and if it doesn’t get better soon then PTS. Which might happen
anyway, but I don’t want it to be because of red skin.

My fried Said it really doesn’t look that bad for some reason. I have
seen worse also. She said her Vet always has her shave off more fur . That’s
exactly what my vet told me when my bunny had urine burn. I used a shaver as
his fur was making it worse now I remember. Just make sure the area is clean
and add a small amount of the butt paste she said or A and D. She said the SSD
doesn’t block moisture.

Janet can you ask if I can use a&d or my holistic docs wound
balm (see other email l) a few hours after the SSD? Or does it have to be
washed off first. I’m not bathing him again soon it was awful and made his skin
angry

Vet said only twice a day SSD. And to use ssd one day and
cornstarch another day to keep him dry. But not the same day or it makes a
paste. But the ssd soaks in or rubs off after a few minutes or an hour.
it doesn’t look like there’s any on hkm now.

Here’s pics of the sores and him in his diaper. With and
without flash. Not a great closeup. Its a little better than it was right after
the butt bath. It’s his upper thigh/butt where he lays all the time. He only
lays on one side. I Hope the diaper keeps him dry tonight because I put
the silver sulfa….. antibiotic cream on his sores and it needs to stay on and
not rubbed off and not peed on. He’s still a wee bit damp from his butt bath
but I have to go to bed. I patted with paper towels, towels, sham wows, more
paper towels, hair dryer on low for like 20 minutes. OMG it’s like it’s against
the laws of nature for the fur to be completely dry.

I can’t believe he got these scabs, it must be from
having bare skin rubbing on blankets and carpet and getting wet with pee. I
thought fur was falling out because I had to keep wiping/brushing out some
mushy poops. But then it kept falling out I was using cornstarch to try
and keep him dry/dry him up when he peed, but it didn’t work. I put him on
several layers of bedding to keep him dry, it wasnt working a few days ago but
I think I got it figured out now so he can stay dry. But then he pees onto
himself sometimes so he gets wet again and the cornstarch didn’t prevent the
sores. Maybe they are bed sores or rug burn and urine scald?

Don’t tell him I took a pic of him in his diaper, he
finds it very undignified.

Thanks for advice and support and prayers. We’re still
hoping the ear infections can be cured, then maybe he can get better. He’s
struggling with the dizziness and lack of mobility. He became mobile again a
couple weeks ago, but has backslid. the dizziness and neurological issues
cause one of his back legs to be weak and for him to walk in circles until he
falls over and can’t get back up.
