Hi Jeanette et al:I am not a member of the linux audio mailing
list. Would you happen to have their subscription address? Do you know
if they have a web page discussing various linux compatible equipment?
I really know nothing about music equipment at all other than the name
of one or two devices like the Rolland A30 but don't even know
anything about them. I suppose I need a general overview of things
like controllers and microphones etc. I have a fairly restrictive
budget so would probably opt for finding used equipment once I knew
what it was I was looking for.
The only name of a Microphone I am aware of is a friend that has a
celtic internet radio show uses a mic know as a Blue Yetti but she's a
windows user so is no real help other than she really likes the mic
for her Windows work.
Thank you for taking the time to answer my newbie questions. Until now
I've avoided recording and editting topics to hide from their
complexities by just concentrating on playing.

There are quite a few controller or master keyboards with a USB
connection (USB-MIDI). That means the cable is USB, but in your computer
the keyboard will show up as a MIDI device. I'm not sure what is
currently available, exactly. Go to your favourite music online shop and

No idea. If a mic works at all, it will work in the console. There are
other factors which might determine your choice. As far as I'm aware,
USB still introduces a certain latency on audio. I might be misinformed,
especially with USB3 around. A second potential reason against a USB mic
could be JACK. JACK Audio Connection Kit is a low latency audio server.
It can manage your audio inputs and outputs. It's quite useful,
especially if you're working with software synthesizers. But there are
many good microphones around - USB and otherwise -, depending on what
you need. Vocals, instrument(s), fitting a budget,...
