Dear All,
Today I visited Mutti/Grandma inside the care home, in fact inside her own
room with the door shut!
I had to do the lateral flow test (my first ever!) then wait for half an
hour, that was in the hairdresser's room!, then was taken down to her room.
We met her on the way as she was just coming out of the lounge.
I was wearing a mask, a plastic pinny and plastic gloves but she still
recognised me and her face lit up. I stuck to the rules but did hold her
hand briefly a few times.
The conversation flowed much more easily than on Skype of course. She was
thrilled to bits with the surprise.
She sends her love to everybody and asked if you were all ok. I told her
bits of news, eg. Dave has a new car, I had a nice walk with Helena this
morning, and Jay lives in Coventry where her Dad was during the war.
It was brilliant to be in her room after a whole year of having to guess
what to take her in the way of tissues, toiletries, cosmetics etc.
I now know that some items will not need replenishing til 2022 but that she
had run out of Sweetex which she keeps in her handbag.
She is still winning chocolate on the Bingo!
I was pleased to note that she was wearing the blue slippers I got her back
in the summer to replace the ancient maroon ones!
She still has cards and gifts from all of us as well as lots of photos still
there to remind her who we are.
Her 2021 calendar had been put up so I turned it over to the April picture.
I stayed over an hour which I had not expected and then I took her back to
the lounge where tea is served at 3pm.
I was allowed to book the next two visits, both on Thursdays, so if anyone
wants me to take her anything please get it to me by Wednesday.
She had her second Covid jab last week. She was much more with it than I had
anticipated.but oh boy does she need a haircut! Don't we all!
