Hope you’re all keeping well.
Thought it would be nice to do a Grandma update. I always look forward
to the weekly Tuesday calls with Grandma when I get home from work.
We had a laugh yesterday! I told her about reading different stories
to the little ones at work. One story I’ve read to them recently is
Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson. It’s about a witch with ginger
hair who drops various items to the ground and the animals on the
ground find them and say “is there room on the broom for a
dog/cat/bird like me?” I showed the video of me reading it to my
Dad. He said “does this remind you of Grandma! It’s Mrs Witch!”
I told Grandma this today and she laughed! I love how her daft sense
of humour is still there! I also mentioned to her how Mum had been
watching a programme about North Yorkshire with Whitby and Robin
Hood’s Bay in it and how she thought of Grandma. She said “ahh
that’s so lovely” and had the biggest smile on her face when I
told her. This was a good topic of conversation as she reminisced with
me about growing up in Scarborough and talking about family memories
there.
She asked me a couple of questions today and instigated the
conversations. She likes to ask me the same questions various times in
the call bless her! She asked “how are all the family?” So I named
everyone and said what everyone was up to! She asked me again “do
you enjoy your work?” I tell her how much I love working with the
little ones. She says to me regularly “it’s in the blood you know.
I had Reception class for many years you know.” I tell Grandma
she’s a big inspiration to me. I’m pretty sure I want to go on to
teach Foundation and she will always be a huge inspiration to me. We
always have a giggle over when the children see us outside of school.
She says “it’s when they see you out of context and they think you
live at school!” Another regular occurrence is Grandma not being
able to find her glasses too! She still says “oh come on Eileen!”
The feisty Yorkshire lass is still in there!
Dawn told me how much Grandma enjoys it when she has a visit from
someone in the family or a Skype call. Apparently “she is one of the
residents that really benefits from visits and the Skype calls. She
loves them!” It will be nice when the visits can happen again. I’m
so relieved that Grandma has had the first dose of the covid jab.
I love what Grandma says at the end of every call. She always says
“give my love to all the family.”
