I agree Eric! (except the gender diff's btwn SUV drivers). I'd like
to see an all out ban on SUV's. I am one of the few people who is
happy when gas prices go up. It would all be fair if gas went to $20
a litre, with $19 of it in tax, to be used to clean up all the damge
cars do (of course it can;t all be cleaned up, but gas at those
prices would certainly cut down on use!). Not to mention people might
actually stop using gas motors for lawn mowing and such, which
_severely_ contributes to city smog in the summer... one hour of
running one of those, and you might as well have driven around in an
SUV for 4 hours. What's wrong with electric mowers, and they're
quieter, too. I would so love it if small engines were banned. But
there again, a huge gas tax would clean up the problem better than
any ban.

A few weeks ago I was almost run over on my bicycle (which is hooked
up with an electric motor assist)... a camero with 2 guys in it
actually swerved over half a lane (on a very wide road) into me
(mising me by inches) while the passenger yelled "fall off!"... so
intentional targeting of cyclists by some drivers is here in london
too. I must admit I really hate car culture. I think car culture is
much more prevalent here in suburban london, than in toronto... one
way toronto is better !

If everyone had a nice electric assisted bicycle, we could have roads
the size of sidewalks and turn all the old roads into tomato
gardens... tomatoes for all! ;-)
