Hi folks.
It looks like everyone is enjoying the brand new, beautiful, permanent
pickleball courts. Do you know it was a mere 6 weeks from start to finish?
We are so fortunate to have had two most amazing Project
Managers/Construction Managers in Ken Brummel-Smith and Ken Wood. And we
were equally fortunate that so many of you volunteered your time and labor
to the project. It was a group effort that you should all be proud of.
There are still some things we need to finish on the courts and we need to
recoup hundreds of dollars that several individuals have spent out of
their own pockets. We had hoped to hold a fund-raising tournament this
fall to help recoup those expenses but because of Covid-19, it doesn't
seem feasible to have that large a gathering in the fall.
However, there is still something we can do for you and you can do for the
club. Play pickleball!
A Scramble is a structured pickleball day where we have two groups of 9
players, a mix of guys and gals, per group. Each group plays a round
robin, which means everybody in a group is paired with all of the other
players in that group. It's still doubles, but it's organized such that
you get to be partnered with every other player in your group. Games are
played to 11 points win by 1 (so the first team that gets to 11 wins) and
at the end of each game, you write the scores next to each players' name.
At the end of all the games, the high scoring player in each group will
win a prize. If there is a tie, the winner of the last game played against
each other breaks the tie.
We are asking for a $10 donation per player (or more if you'd like). We
will also be selling hats and shirts from last year's tournament. In
addition, we will have a 50/50 raffle. That means you purchase one or more
raffle tickets for a small fee and the winning ticket drawn wins half of
the take and the Mt. Shasta Pickleball Club gets the other half.
There will also be items auctioned off. One item is a private 2-hour
lesson with Marian Pasela.
At this event, we will continue to follow all Covid-19 recommendations. We
ask that you wear a mask whenever you are spectating. If you can wear a
mask while playing, that's preferred too. Otherwise, always have a mask
ready to put on when you finish your game and are moving off the court to
the spectator area. In the spectator area, stay 6 feet apart.
Please bring a chair, food, snacks, and drinks. The day lasts probably
about 3-4 hours, maybe less if your group doesn't have the full nine
players. There will some prizes for first place winners.
This event is for folks in our local area right now. We are purposely not
extending the invite to our Redding, SLC, or Klamath friends. This is
because of Covid-19 and we're trying to limit our exposure.
If you want to play in this event or you have questions, please email
directly to: marian@xxxxxxxxxx . A few days before the event, I'll send
out a notice about whether we need more players for either group.
If we fill up before you can get on the list, we'll have more scrambles
through the summer and fall. Also, feel free to come by to watch and
perhaps give a donation or buy raffle tickets, or participate in the
50/50, and/or auctions.
Thanks,
Marian
