Lisa,

It's an odd behaviour, to be sure, until you realise that it appears to be
saying "make each row have 7 columns", rather than just "add a cell to each
row".  However this logic doesn't follow when you insert a column to the
LEFT of the last column.  This achieves what you want, in fact.  If there is
data in the last column, select the cells (not the column) and cut and paste
them into the newly inserted column.
