As Kathy has alrady stated, only .wav files can be embedded, so you either
need to convert your .mp3 file to .wav or include the .mp3 file in your
distribution with the .ppt file.

I've once insert sound file (.mp3) to ppt and convert to pps.
But when i opened the file in a different PC/laptop, the sound file didn't
work.
Do you any idea? (sound file > 4MB)
