Clint,

Your lookup table on the sheet Recoveries comprises values in the first
column which can be matched to whatever is in Column A in the target sheet.

Across the top of your lookup table (in Row 2) your columns are numbered 1
to 13 (starting in Column C).  When the formula you quote is replicated
across rows, the C will increment to D, E, F ... O and the formula will add
2 to the index number at the top and thus reference the appropriate column
in the lookup table.

I hope that is reasonably clear :)
