Glenda,
You could use MS Query to link to the Access tables instead of the way you
have done it. I've used it in a similar way - from the Data menu select
"Import External Data" , then "Database Query". The only problem I found
when using this was when linking to a database across a network I had to use
the full path rather than drive letters.
However it refreshes when the workbook is opened, and furthermore if you
want to narrow the data down based on parameters in your spreadsheet, it
refreshes (if you want it to) when thay are changed

I have a workbook in Excel with 2 worksheet. The background worksheet is
linked to tables in Access via Import Data so I get the totals resulting
from running Access Queries. The primary worksheet...the one I want people
to see has values pointing to the background worksheet.
What I'd like is when the workbook is opened, the background worksheet
refreshes the Access data and the primary worksheet refreshes against the
newly refreshed background worksheet...all without user intervention. All I
want the user to do is to look at the primary worksheet and optionally print
it.
