It is an AutoCorrect option. Different characters give you different
types of line. You can use dashes, equals, asterisks, underlines, and
hashes.

They are a border, so you need the Borders and Shading dialogue box
(Format menu). Select the line, open the dialogue box and choose None.
You might have to repeat that a few times until its gone - sometimes
the line just moves up instead of disappearing.
