[mso] Word won't open

I am hoping someone can help me out with the following problem:
I can not open any of my Microsoft Office products,including; Word, Excel,
and Publisher. When I try to open them I receive the following message:
"Windows installer failed to install the program associated with this file.
Contact your system adminstrator."
The programs were working fine until I uninstalled the virtual bouncer
application, (I do not know how that got installed on my computer) and
restarted my computer.
This is the second time this has happened. The first time I installed
OfficeXP. I was using Office2000. Those files are still on my computer.
I tried deleting the normal.dot file, but that did not help. I can open Word
when I run the 'winword.exe /a' but then I get a dialog box saying,
'Microsoft Word has not been installed for the current user. Please run
setup to install the application.'
I can reinstall OfficeXP, but I want to find out why this is happening so it
doesn't happen again.
